On June 2, CCTV's "News Broadcast" reported that Wang Huning, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, held discussions in Beijing with members of the Presidential Meeting of the 9th Council of the Western Returned Scholars Association (Overseas-educated Scholars Association of China) and met with representatives of the Second National Congress of Members of the Western Returned Scholars Association. He emphasized the need to deeply implement the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, as well as the important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the 100th anniversary celebration of the Western Returned Scholars Association and the spirit of his congratulatory letter on its 110th anniversary. He called for carrying forward fine traditions, taking an active role, and promoting greater development and achievements in the cause of overseas education serving the nation.

From June 1 to June 2, the Second National Congress of Members of the Western Returned Scholars Association and the First Meeting of the 9th Council were successfully held in Beijing. During the meeting, the 9th Council of the Western Returned Scholars Association was elected. Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and President of the Jiangsu Branch of the Western Returned Scholars Association, was elected Vice President of the 9th Council of the Western Returned Scholars Association.
