NJU organizes series of events for high-qualty development of Journalism and Communication

This year marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of Nanjing University's Journalism and Communication discipline and the 40th anniversary of its enrollment resumption. On May 31, the series of events for high-quality development of Journalism and Communication discipline were held at the Xianlin Campus. Leaders from relevant departments in Jiangsu Province, heads of central news organizations stationed in Jiangsu, leaders of provincial and municipal media, guest representatives from journalism schools nationwide, leaders and guests of NJU, and alumni from all walks of life gathered to reminisce about the glorious past and envision the blueprint for development. Xu Ying, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Jiangsu Pronvincial Committee; and Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Zhou Yong, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, Renmin University, presented a handwritten inscription from centenarian scholar Fang Hanzhi.

The unveiling ceremony of the NJU School of Journalism and Communication's History Museum (Mingjing Hall) was also held. Jiang Yong, Director and Party Secretary of Jiangsu Education Department; Hu Liansheng, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Jiangsu Pronvincial Committee; and Chen Yunsong, Deputy Chair of NJU CPC Council; unveiled the historical museum together.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Ge Lai, Dean of NJU School of Journalism and Communication and Director of Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation.

On the same day, the development report conference for the Journalism and Communication disciplinealso took place. It was chaired by Li Xiaoyu, Party Secretary of the School. Letters of congratulations from nearly 100 institutions were displayed on-site.

Zhang Hongjun, Executive Dean of the School, delivered a thematic report reviewing the development of the discipline and outlining its future blueprint.

Special guests included Sun Yujing, granddaughter of Sun Mingjing, along with alumni representatives from past decades, expressing heartfelt sentiments toward their alma mater.

Three teaching representatives shared insights on teaching reform and research innovation. 

Two commemorative collections were unveiled.

In the afternoon, an array of academic forums was held. Deans and experts from nearly 100 Journalism and Communication schools nationwide engaged in in-depth discussions on discipline construction and talent cultivation in the intelligent era. Editors from major academic journals exchanged views on AI-driven publication themes and orientations, while participants revisited Sun Mingjing's pioneering contributions to Chinese audiovisual education. These forums enriched the celebratory atmosphere while strengthening consensus within academia and industry to collectively shape the future.
