Tan Tieniu meets with Xie Bing and delegation from ACHA

On May 28, Xie Bing, Executive Secretary-General of the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia (ACHA), led a delegation to visit Nanjing University. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with Xie Bing and his delegation at the Xianlin Campus. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on further deepening and expanding cooperation, as well as jointly advancing the work of cultural heritage protection and inheritance.

On behalf of NJU, Tan Tieniu welcomed Xie Bing and his delegation. He pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping has placed great importance on the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage, which fully reflects the significant meaning of adhering to the "two combinations" and bolstering cultural confidence. NJU has a longstanding tradition of protecting and inheriting cultural heritage, with rich experience accumulated and distinctive features and strengths developed. Tan Tieniu expressed his anticipation of further deepening cooperation with the Asian Alliance for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, leveraging the university's disciplinary characteristics and strengths, building a robust synergy in interdisciplinary research, promoting the application of artificial intelligence technologies in cultural heritage protection and inheritance, and strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the ACHA and the World Data Organization. Together, they aim to make new and greater contributions to the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage.

Xie Bing introduced the basic situation of the ACHA. He emphasized that the role of technology in cultural heritage protection and inheritance is becoming increasingly prominent, and it is essential to continuously strengthen interdisciplinary connections and rely on technological empowerment to advance digital construction. ACHA is dedicated to contributing China's strength and enhancing China's voice in the field of cultural heritage protection and inheritance. With its rich historical and cultural tradition and prominent disciplinary advantages, NJU and ACHA have broad prospects for collaboration. Xie Bing expressed his hope to continuously foster communication and cooperation between the two parties and jointly explore a Chinese approach to cultural heritage protection and inheritance.

At the discussion meeting, Chen Yunsong, Deputy Chair of NJU CPC Council, shared the university's practical explorations and significant achievements in areas such as historical building conservation, constructing an independent knowledge system, and using technology to empower cultural heritage protection. He expressed the hope to conduct pragmatic cooperation with the ACHA in the areas of world cultural heritage protection, digitization and intelligent construction, and the application of artificial intelligence technologies, leveraging the university's multidisciplinary advantages and cutting-edge research results to better serve the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage.

Representatives of both sides exchanged views on specific areas of cooperation, engaging in in-depth discussions on topics such as think tank construction, technological empowerment, revolutionary relics research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Attending the meeting were Gao Fang, Assistant President and Director of the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences at NJU, along with heads of relevant university departments, faculty representatives, and ACHA members.
