From June 1 to June 15, 2026, Professor Dmitry Trubochkin of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) will visit the School of Liberal Arts at Nanjing University to deliver four specialized lectures on the theme "Between Tradition and Avant-Garde: Russian Theatre from the 20th Century to the Present." Professor Trubochkin will also lead a workshop titled "Chekhov on Stage: Interpretations Across Performance Styles and Schools."

About the Speaker

Professor Dmitry Trubochkin is a distinguished Russian scholar of classical literature and theatre history. He currently serves as Professor at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS), Head of the Department of Western Classical Arts at the Russian State Institute for Art Studies, Guest Professor at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, and Assistant to the Artistic Director at the Evgeny Vakhtangov Theatre. He has authored six monographs, including The Ancient Greek Theatre, Rimas Tuminas: Works of the Moscow Period, Understanding the Theatre of Arkady Leikin, and Ancient Literature and Dramaturgy, and has published more than 150 articles and reviews on theatre and the arts. He recently served as Chair of the Academic Committee for the Encyclopedia of Contemporary Russian Theatre. He is a member of the editorial boards of several Russian and international journals devoted to theatre and the arts, and has been awarded the Medal for Strengthening the Authority of Russian Science along with other national and professional honours.
