On April 25, School of Philosophy at Nanjing University held the symposium on "philosophy of space for Chinese modernization". The symposium was jointly hosted by the Center for Studies of Marxist Social Theory (CSMST), the School of Philosophy at Nanjing University and the Research Group for Discourse Analysis and Construction of Spatial Philosophy in Chinese Modernization. More than 20 experts and scholars from all over the country attended the symposium.
Prof. Liu Peng, Vice Dean of the School of Philosophy, addressed the opening ceremony. He pointed out that the research on philosophy of space of Chinese modernization is of great significance to both China and the world. It not only provides important ideological materials for exploring new topics in philosophy of space, but also lays a theoretical foundation for reflecting on Western spatial philosophy. The symposium thus hoped that participants would break through the traditional research boundaries of philosophy of space and gain insights into a richer ideological picture with a broader theoretical vision.
Prof. Liu Huaiyu, Vice Director of the CSMST, presided over the opening ceremony.
During the symposium, scholars held heated discussions on both "general spatial theory" involving classic text research and theoretical speculation, and "special spatial theory" focusing on multiple practical dimensions such as urban development, economy, ecology, culture and tourism, and land. The symposium aimed to provide feasible solutions to spatial contradictions in the process of industrialization and urbanization.
