On the afternoon of August 25, the signing and unveiling ceremony of the "Nanjing University-BOE HC SEMITEK CPO Frontier Technology Joint Laboratory " was held at Xianlin Campus of Nanjing University. Zheng Hairong, Members of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee, Executive Vice President of NJU, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Zheng Youliao, Academician of the CAS, Professor of NJU; Shi Yi, Academician of the CAS, Dean of the Institute of Microelectronics of Nanjing University; Zhang Zhaohong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of BOE HC SEMITECK Co., Ltd.; attended the ceremony and delivered speeches, jointly witnessing this important moment of deep integration of industry, academia, and research.
Zheng Hairong stated in his speech that the establishment of a joint laboratory by Nanjing University and BOE HC SEMITEK is a pragmatic measure for both parties to jointly implement the important mandate of the General Secretary to "promote the deep integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation." It is also an active effort to deepen local and enterprise strategic cooperation and better support the new practice of Chinese modernization in Jiangsu. NJU will take this as an opportunity to fully promote coordinated innovation between industry, academia, research, and application, working together with BOE HC SEMITEK, with innovation as the engine and coordination as the link, hand in hand, advancing in both directions, to make new contributions to promoting the new practice of Chinese modernization in Jiangsu.
In his speech, Academician Zheng Youliao said that R&D teams of both sides have maintained a long-term cooperative relationship and have achieved remarkable results. The jointly established laboratory is not only a refinement of previous foundations but also a witness to future progress. It is hoped that colleagues from both sides will work together to make greater contributions to the technology and industry direction related to Micro-LED.
Academician Shi Yi stated in his speech that in the fields of artificial intelligence and integrated circuits, the world is witnessing a transformation from electronics to photonics. Whoever first masters optical interconnect and optical computing technology will seize the strategic advantage in future technology and industry arenas. Both sides will fully leverage their respective advantages to gain discourse power in this international competition and contribute to ensuring the security of key core technologies.
Zhang Zhaohong stated in his speech that NJU has strong basic scientific research strength and high-level talent advantages in the fields of integrated optoelectronics and microelectronics. Both parties will focus on the core technology bottleneck of Micro-LED optoelectronic co-packaging, collaboratively tackle key problems, and produce high-value original technological achievements.
Zheng Hairong and Zhang Zhaohong jointly unveiled the laboratory. Academician Zheng Youliao was appointed as the honorary director of the joint laboratory, while Liu Bin, Dean of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering at NJU, and Wang Jiangbo, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of BOE HC SEMITEK, served as co-directors of the joint laboratory.
Liu Bin and Wang Jiangbo signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties.
The establishment of this joint laboratory not only builds a platform for deep integration of industry, academia, and research for both parties but also injects new momentum for China to seize the technological high ground in the fields of Micro-LED and optical interconnection. The laboratory will fully utilize NJU's basic research advantages and BOE HC SEMITEK's industry transformation capabilities to promote the progress of Micro-LED optoelectronic co-packaging technology from the laboratory to industrialization, contributing to the national new generation display and integrated circuit industry upgrade. The first special project of the joint laboratory was simultaneously launched.
