On August 24th, winners of the 8th "Xplorer Prize" were officially announced, with 50 young scientists making the list. Among them were Professor Huang Shuo from the School of Chemistry and Professor Wang Tao from the School of Astronomy and Space Science at Nanjing University.

Huang Shuo

Personal Profile:

Huang Shuo is a professor and doctoral advisor at the School of Chemistry, Nanjing University. He is affiliated with the State Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Science, the Nanjing University Institute of Chemistry and Biomedical Innovation (ChemBIC), and the Drum Tower Hospital affiliated with Nanjing University Medical School.

Huang has received numerous prestigious grants and honors, including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2022), the National "Overseas Talent Program" (Youth), the Jiangsu Distinguished Young Scholars Fund, and the Jiangsu Provincial Dual Innovation Team Leading Talent grant. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the Department of Physics at Nanjing University and a Ph.D. from Arizona State University in the United States. He completed postdoctoral research at Oxford University in the United Kingdom and returned to China to join Nanjing University in 2015.

Wang Tao

Wang Tao is a professor at the School of Astronomy and Space Science, Nanjing University. He earned his Ph.D. in astrophysics from Nanjing University in 2012 and subsequently studied and worked at institutions including Harvard University, Université Paris-Saclay, and the University of Tokyo. He joined Nanjing University in 2021.

Wang has been supported by various programs and grants, including the National "Overseas Talent Program" (Youth), the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and the Jiangsu Province Climbing Project. His research focuses on the formation and evolution of galaxies, galaxy clusters, and large-scale cosmic structures.

About the "Xplorer Prize"

Established in 2018, the "Xplorer Prize" is a philanthropic award funded by the New Cornerstone Science Foundation and led by scientists. It targets ten areas in basic science and cutting-edge technology, supporting young scientific researchers who work full-time in mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR. Each winner receives a total prize of 3 million RMB over five years, which they can freely allocate, making it one of the highest-value funding programs for young scientific talent in China. The award adheres to the principles of being "future-oriented, rewarding potential, and encouraging exploration," aiming to inspire young researchers to pursue uncharted territories in science with dedication and focus.
