Tan Tieniu pointed out that building the Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta) International Science and Technology Innovation Center is a major strategy personally planned, deployed, and promoted by General Secretary Xi Jinping. It plays a key role in ensuring China's high-level science and technology self-reliance, as well as the high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. General Secretary Xi Jinping's significant directives for Jiangsu and the major strategies rolled out by the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Government provide NJU with a new mission grounded in the times. It also grants a broad stage for the integration of the university with the local area.

In recent years, as an important part of China's national strategic strength in science, technology, and education, NJU has actively engaged in the national and regional innovation system, deeply aligning with Jiangsu's "1650" industrial framework. It has initiated and implemented special actions to "fully support new practices of Chinese modernization in Jiangsu", aiming to achieve new successes in serving Jiangsu and contributing to the nation.
Tan Tieniu emphasized that embarking on the "15th Five-Year Plan" marks a new journey. Under the guidance and support of the Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu Province, NJU will work hand in hand with Nanjing City to jointly tackle challenges and work towards shared goals. The construction of the Nanjing key pillar and the Zijinshan Innovation Belt will be taken as the main field for university-local cooperation and the grand platform for industry-education integration. Efforts will focus on four dimensions: first, embracing national priorities to assume shared missions in serving national strategies; second, focusing on primary innovation to make breakthroughs in critical core technologies; third, deepening industry-education integration to enhance the dynamics of research translation and industry empowerment; fourth, fostering open collaboration to promote integrated development of education, science, technology, and talent.
Tan Tieniu expressed that the university will use the second phase of the Xianlin Campus and the Nanjing Tech-Innovation Community as engines, laying a solid foundation and embarking on a grand voyage for its centennial and beyond. It will continue refining the "one university, two cities, four campuses" layout, ensuring NJU's intelligence and Jiangsu's practices complement and achieve each other. This aims to synchronize the origin of innovation with industrial upgrades, taking a leadership role in contributing to the construction of the Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta) International Science and Technology Innovation Center, deeply integrating science and industry innovations, and contributing significantly to building a prosperous, strong, and beautiful Jiangsu and advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization.
