Strategic cooperation agreement signed between NJU and China Meteorological Administration

On August 19, the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between Nanjing University and the China Meteorological Administration was held at the Gulou Campus of NJU. Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Chen Zhenlin, Party Secretary and Director of the China Meteorological Administration, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.

On behalf of NJU, Tan Zhemin welcomed the visit of Chen Zhenlin and his delegation and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the China Meteorological Administration for its long-term care and support to NJU. He stated that NJU and the China Meteorological Administration are connected through meteorology and aligned in science and education. Since their first strategic cooperation in 2002, they have forged a distinctive path of "bureau-university collaboration, integration of science and education, and unification of industry, academia, and application." This cooperation agreement clearly defines new directions for both parties in cutting-edge scientific research, innovation platform construction, talent cultivation, and exchange, propelling their collaboration to deeper levels, broader fields, and higher standards. At this new starting point for cooperation, NJU will strengthen organizational support, improve a long-term coordination mechanism, remain demand-oriented, promote the rapid transformation of scientific research achievements, stay committed to education, and establish a model for bureau-university collaborative education. The university will shoulder its responsibilities as an institution of higher learning, serve the national strategic landscape, fully implement all elements of the agreement, and strive to ensure the realization of practical results, making greater contributions to advancing national development and national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.

Chen Zhenlin stated that NJU and the China Meteorological Administration are closely interconnected and deeply involved in the development of meteorology, having achieved fruitful outcomes. He expressed hope that the two sides will work together to advance scientific research in critical areas, producing a series of original, leading, and practical results that address not only the frontiers of science and technology but also real-world problems, thereby providing strong support for disaster prevention and mitigation and addressing climate change. They aim to jointly build pragmatic platforms for scientific and technological innovation that integrate scientific experiments, basic research, technological advancement, and talent cultivation in an all-in-one approach to meet service needs and promote the transformation of achievements into practical productivity. They also hope to cultivate high-level, multidisciplinary meteorological talents, establish a collaborative education mechanism, and continuously produce an innovative, composite, and application-oriented professional force in meteorology. He anticipates NJU leveraging its advantages in the global application of the "Mazu" meteorological intelligent warning solution, building a distinguished service brand in meteorology. They aim to empower meteorological science and technology innovation through education, lead high-quality development with talent, and contribute stronger meteorological wisdom and strength to national development and the great cause of national rejuvenation.

Zheng Hairong, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU, Executive Vice President of NJU, and Academician of the CAS; and Bi Baogui, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the China Meteorological Administration, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

According to the agreement, the two parties will fully leverage the scientific research and operational advantages of the China Meteorological Administration and the advantages of NJU in top-tier disciplines and talent resources. Together, they will carry out high-level scientific research, build highly integrated technology innovation platforms for "government-industry-university-research-application," actively conduct discipline development and talent cultivation, and jointly make greater contributions to promoting the integration of science and education, technological innovation, and high-quality development in meteorology.
