On July 23, the summary and exchange meeting of the 6th National Teaching Innovation Contest for College Teachers was held at Nanjing University. Guided by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and hosted by the China Association of Higher Education (CAHE), the competition was co-organized by Nanjing University and Nanjing University of Science and Technology. Centered on the theme of "Promoting Teaching Innovation and Cultivating First-Class Talent," the competition aimed to advance teaching reform in universities, facilitate teacher exchanges, and showcase educational achievements.
The meeting was attended by Lin Huiqing, President of CAHE and former Deputy Minister of Education; Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the CAS; Wu Shixing, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education; Xu Feng, Deputy Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Education Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Education Department; Yang Yixin, President of NUST; as well as CAHE Vice Presidents Guan Peijun, Li Jiajun, Yan Chunhua, and Zhang Daliang, and Zhao Yaqin, Deputy Director of Education Department of Heilongjiang Province, among others. The meeting was chaired by Li Nan, Vice President and Secretary-General of CAHE.

An award ceremony was held during the event, with Lin Huiqing, Tan Tieniu, Guan Peijun, Li Jiajun, Yan Chunhua, Zhang Daliang, and Wu Shixing presenting awards to the winning universities and teachers. A total of 104 first prizes, 247 second prizes, 348 third prizes, and 22 outstanding organization awards were conferred in this competition. NJU received the National Outstanding Organization Award. Lu Xiancai, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee and Vice President of NJU, accepted the award on behalf of the university. Zhang Xiaoyang, a teacher from the School of Life Sciences, won a first prize, and Ma Chunmei, a teacher from the School of Geography and Oceanography, won a second prize, achieving the best results in NJU's history.
A flag handover ceremony was also held at the meeting. The 7th contest will take place in Harbin, with Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin Engineering University, Harbin Medical University, and Northeast Agricultural University co-hosting. On behalf of the current host schools, Tan Tieniu and Yang Yixin formally handed over the competition flag to Liu Jian, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC HIT Committee and Vice President of HIT; and Zhao Yuxin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC HEU Committee and Vice President of HEU.
On behalf of the Education Department of Heilongjiang Province, Zhao Yaqin extended a heartfelt invitation to her peers in higher education, expressing the Department's commitment to organizing the competition with guidance from the Department of Higher Education and CAHE. She emphasized a multi-school collaborative approach to ensure high-quality and high-level teaching innovation competitions.
This year's contest saw participation from 1,308 universities, with 138,000 teachers joining the university-level competition, 45,000 teachers advancing to the provincial level, and 2,694 teachers and teams entering the final national on-site evaluations with 699 courses. Alongside the competition, five parallel exchange activities for enhancing teaching abilities were conducted, along with an on-site demonstration of intelligent teaching systems in higher education. The competition received substantial support from relevant departments in Nanjing.
Since its inception six years ago, the contest has witnessed 570,000 teacher participants nationwide, with 2,900 teacher teams earning accolades in the national competition. Aligned with the goal of "promoting teaching innovation and cultivating first-class talent," the competition has established a "four-in-one" teaching innovation ecosystem combining competition incentives, academic guidance, training transformation, and standard support. The ecosystem aims to encourage teaching innovation and dedication through high-level competitions, gather advanced educational thoughts and teaching practices via academic conferences, empower research and classroom improvement with systematic training, and ensure the quality and direction of teaching innovations through a standardized framework.
