On July 20, Shen Huoming, Party Secretary of Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT); and Xu Qiang, President of CDUT, led a delegation to Nanjing University for a research and discussion session. Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences met with the delegation on Xianlin campus. The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics such as discipline development, talent cultivation, scientific research innovation, and inter-university cooperation while reminiscing about their historic ties and jointly promoting high-quality development.

Tan Zhemin gave a warm welcome to Shen Huoming and his delegation. He provided an overview of NJU's efforts and achievements in areas such as discipline development, campus construction, academic accomplishments, and foundational research. He emphasized that CDUT has a profound heritage and distinct characteristics, having made significant contributions to national industrial development, geological exploration, and other fields. Tan pointed out the strong historic ties between NJU and CDUT and the close collaboration the two institutions have maintained over the years in academic research, discipline development, and talent cultivation, which has resulted in numerous achievements. Standing at the new starting point of the "15th Five-Year Plan," he expressed hope that the two universities would continue to broaden their areas of cooperation, deepen practical collaboration, leverage their respective educational characteristics and disciplinary strengths, and make greater contributions to meeting major national strategic needs and promoting regional economic and social development.
Shen Huoming expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from NJU. He noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of CDUT, and its construction and development could not have advanced without the long-term support of NJU. He remarked that this visit to NJU is both a journey of tracing roots and connections as well as one of looking to the future and deepening collaboration. Shen expressed hope that the two universities would take this research visit as an opportunity to strengthen communication and exchanges, learn from one another’s strengths, collaborate for mutual progress, and contribute more significantly to the implementation of the "15th Five-Year Plan."
Xu Qiang introduced the general situation of CDUT, outlining the school's historical development, discipline construction, and academic achievements. He highlighted the school's disciplinary strengths and accomplishments, particularly in its specialized fields such as geological resources and geological engineering, mineralogy, oil and gas field development engineering, and geological disaster prevention and mitigation.
Lu Xiancai, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee and Vice President of NJU chaired the discussion session. The two sides engaged in deep discussions on topics such as discipline development, talent cultivation, faculty development, scientific research innovation, and academic journal construction.

During their visit, Shen Huoming and his delegation also toured NJU's History Exhibition Hall and the Key National Laboratory for Critical Earth Material Circulation and Metallogenesis at the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering. They listened to introductions about the university's historical evolution, academic achievements, and gained a detailed understanding of its latest discoveries and accomplishments in the field of Earth Sciences.
