NJU-Zhenjiang Municipal People's Government cooperation agreement signing and unveiling ceremony held

On 29 June, the signing and inauguration ceremony for the university-local government cooperation agreement between Nanjing University and the Zhenjiang Municipal People's Government took place at NJU's Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the CAS; Wu Qingwen, Secretary of the Zhenjiang Municipal Party Committee; and Zhang Ke, Mayor of Zhenjiang, attended the event.

In his address, Tan Tieniu noted that Zhenjiang is a historic and cultural city with a rich heritage, as well as a dynamic hub for advanced manufacturing in the Yangtze River Delta, offering unique and favourable conditions for collaborative development between the university and the local community. NJU and Zhenjiang share close geographical proximity, strong ties and frequent exchanges; he expressed his gratitude to the Zhenjiang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal People's Government for their long-standing and wholehearted support. He looked forward to fully leveraging both parties' strengths in future cooperation, using the joint construction of the NJU Affiliated Hospital as a key driver to mutually enhance healthcare provision for the public and the high-quality development of medical disciplines; closely aligning with the requirements for developing new-quality productive forces, accelerating the local transformation of NJU's cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements in Zhenjiang, and promoting the deep integration of local industrial layout and university research. NJU is committed to working in unison with Zhenjiang, moving forward together in a spirit of mutual support, to comprehensively expand practical cooperation in the fields of education, healthcare, scientific innovation and industry, and to jointly establish a benchmark for university-local government collaboration in the Yangtze River Delta.

On behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal People's Government, Wu Qingwen expressed gratitude to NJU for its long-standing care and support for Zhenjiang, and offered warm congratulations on the signing of the university-local government cooperation agreement and the inauguration of the affiliated hospital. At present, Zhenjiang is at a critical juncture in the transition from old to new growth drivers and urgently requires the innovative resources of higher education institutions to drive its development. The city will proactively engage and collaborate closely, upholding the philosophy of "a prestigious university + a renowned medical school + distinguished medical professionals" to jointly establish the affiliated hospital, thereby comprehensively enhancing the standard of local medical services. He emphasized that together, NJU and Zhenjiang city will write a brand-new chapter in which a prestigious university and a renowned city mutually enrich one another and shine in unison.

During the event, promotional videos for NJU and Zhenjiang City were screened. Tan Zhemin and Zhang Ke jointly unveiled the plaque for the "NJU Affiliated Hospital, Zhenjiang". Suo Wenbin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee and  Vice President of NJU; Wu Ming, Vice-Mayor of Zhenjiang, jointly signed the "Cooperation Agreement on the Joint Construction of NJU Affiliated Hospital, Zhenjiang". The "Cooperation Agreement on Collaborative Innovation and Development between NJU and Zhenjiang High-Tech Zone" was also signed during the event.

Li Bin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee and Vice President of NJU, chaired the ceremony. In attendance were Yin Weimin and Jiang Pengcheng, leaders from Zhenjiang City; Sun Leqiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee and Director of the Organisation Department of NJU; and heads of relevant departments and faculties at NJU.
