On October 30, Nanjing University and China Daily signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing, opening a new chapter of cooperation to further strengthen international communication. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Qu Yingpu, President and Editor-in-Chief of China Daily, attended the event and delivered speeches.
In his speech, Tan Tieniu stated that NJU and China Daily have long maintained close cooperation in multiple fields including academic research, talent cultivation, and cultural communication. This signing is a pragmatic move by both parties to jointly implement the spirit of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and bear in mind President Xi Jinping's earnest instructions to "strive to be exemplary in strengthening cultural confidence and telling China's story well." He hoped that both the university and media would leverage their respective advantages, focus on strengthening international communication work, join hands to strengthen the interpretation and dissemination of the Party's innovative theories and demonstrate the power of thought; join hands to cultivate compound talents in the field of international communication and consolidate the talent foundation; join hands to build high-level think tanks for international communication and enhance intellectual momentum; join hands to focus on national strategic needs and create quality projects, moving toward each other and deepening cooperation, to make new and greater contributions to comprehensively advancing the great cause of building a strong country and national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.
Qu Yingpu stated that this signing is a concrete measure for both parties to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Culture and implement the spirit of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and is also an innovative exploration of central mainstream media and top universities joining hands to create a new "media + think tank + education" international communication model. As a major central media, national English daily newspaper, and main force in international communication, China Daily always bears in mind its mission of "connecting China and foreign countries, communicating with the world." At this new starting point, he hoped that both parties would further deepen international communication cooperation and enhance NJU's internationalization level; jointly build academic highlands and promote collaborative innovation and achievement transformation; cultivate new forces and serve the international communication talent strategy, to make new and greater contributions to presenting a China that is credible, appealing, and respectable to the outside world and enhancing the communication power and influence of Chinese civilization.
Chen Yunsong, Deputy Chair of NJU CPC Council, and Liu Weiling, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Daily, signed the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties.
