From October 24th to 26th, the 19th Forum on Development of China's Cause of the Disabled was held at Nanjing University. The theme of this forum was "Improving the Quality of Public Services for Disabled Persons with Disabilities." Li Dongmei, Member of the Party Leadership Group, Vice Chairperson of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) executive board, Chen Zhongwei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, Suo Wenbin, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of NJU, and Guan Xinping, President of China Disability Research Society, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Li Dongmei pointed out that since the beginning of the "14th Five-Year Plan," China's cause of the disabled has achieved remarkable results. Looking ahead to the new journey of the "15th Five-Year Plan," she emphasized the need to: enhance the livelihood security level for persons with disabilities, promote employment and income growth, and improve basic safety net systems; improve the quality of public services for disabled persons, innovate service models, and expand the supply of urgently needed services; safeguard the equal rights of disabeld persons by promoting legislative amendments, strengthening judicial protection, and building barrier-free environments; enrich the spiritual and cultural lives of disabled persons through extensive cultural and sports activities and support for artistic creation; and promote innovative applications of assistive technology, advancing cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and brain-computer interfaces to benefit disabled persons.

Suo Wenbin extended a warm welcome to researchers and practitioners from across the country. He pointed out that as an institution with high expectations from President Xi Jinping, NJU has always resonated with national priorities, placing moral education and service to national strategies at the core of its educational mission. In recent years, guided by the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important reply letter, the university has deeply implemented advancement actions, adhered to the principles of equality, participation, and sharing in the development of the cause of the disabled, effectively promoting in-depth research on disability issues and achieving a series of fruitful results.

In his speech, Guan Xinping stated that disability research should be at the forefront of development, following the requirements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to carefully summarize the practical experiences of the cause of the disabled in China and worldwide, and actively construct China's own knowledge system for the caue of the disabled. He emphasized the need to adhere to comprehensive deepening of reforms, effective market mechanisms combined with capable government, coordinated development and security principles, as well as increasing efforts to guarantee and improve people's livelihoods, solidly promoting common prosperity for all people, and improving the quality of people's lives.
This forum invited 16 guests and academic experts to deliver keynote speeches, specifically organized a roundtable dialogue on family support and improving disability service quality, and set up six sub-forums for in-depth discussions on various relevant themes and subjects. Over 200 participants attended the forum, including officials from the Research Office of the State Council, the National Health Commission, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Civil Affairs, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the Academy of Macroeconomic Research; leaders from local governments and the CDPF system; experts and scholars from nearly higher education institutions and research organizations including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Nankai University, Sun Yat-sen University, Jilin University, Lanzhou University, Sichuan University, and Shenzhen University; as well as representatives from relevant enterprises and social organizations.
