NJU holds Training for Research and Academic Planning

On the afternoon of July 3, Nanjing University held a Training for Research and Academic Planning. It aimed to establish a high-level academic exchange platform to explore how to accurately grasp national strategic needs, refine major scientific issues, achieve original breakthroughs in frontier fields, and make relevant and significant research achievements for the nation. Zhang Yudong, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Democratic League, and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, along with Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended the event.

In his speech, Tan Zhemin emphasized that NJU's research has always resonated with the nation and the times. He pointed out that as the world witnesses accelerated technological revolutions and industrial transformations, science, engineering, and medicine serve as core driving forces for societal progress. The scientific, forward-looking, and strategic nature of planning in these fields directly impacts the construction of a strong nation, the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and the development of NJU as a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. This training session aimed to help NJU researchers to clarify direction, gather strength, and enhance consciousness. Tan Zhemin expressed his expectations for scientists and researchers participating this training.

The conference featured training reports given by Zhang Yudong; Ouyang Zhongcan, Academician of the CAS and Researcher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the CAS; Fang Jiancheng Academician of the CAS and Chair of the Academic Committee of Beihang University; Liu Chenli, Director of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the CAS; Fu Qaomei, Deputy Director of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the CAS; and Zheng Hairong, Vice President of NJU and Academician of the CAS.

After the conference, Chen Xin, a young faculty member from the Medical School; Zhao Yue, another young faculty member from the Medical School; Ren Xinkun, a young faculty member from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences; and Chen Tianyu, a young faculty member from the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering made statements, sharing their gains and thoughts about the training.

Zheng Hairong chaired the conference. The training also included satellite venue on Suzhou campus. Leaders from relevant departments, faculty members, full-time researchers, postdoctoral fellows, research secretaries, personnel secretaries, and financial secretaries participated in the event.
