Academician Zheng Hairong elected President of Chinese Association of Young Scientists and Technologists

On April 28, the Seventh General Meeting of the Chinese Association of Young Scientists and Technologists (CAYST) was held in Beijing. Wang Zhizhen, Vice Chairman of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended the meeting. A Dong, First Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Chen Jiachang, Member of the Party Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Meng Qinghai, Full-time Vice Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), attended the meeting. Bai Chunli, Academician of CAS and former President of CAS, attended the meeting and gave an academic report. Xu Xiao, Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and Chairman of the All-China Youth Federation, presided over the meeting and gave a concluding speech. Wu Gang, President of the Sixth CAYST made a work report. More than 300 representatives of the Association's members attended the meeting.

During the general meeting, the Academic Steering Committee of the Seventh CAYST was established and held its first meeting, with Bai Chunli as the Director of the Academic Steering Committee and 13 Academicians, including Wang Zhizhen, as members of the Committee. The first meeting passed the work report of CAYST, the Constitution of CAYST (Amendment), and elected the Council and Supervisory Board. After the meeting, the Seventh CAYST Council and the First Supervisory Board were held, electing Zheng Hairong as the Seventh President of CAYST. The meeting also elected Vice President, Supervisory Board and Secretary-General of the Seventh CAYST.

Zheng Hairong is Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor and Vice President of Nanjing University. His research focus on medical imaging information technology and instrumentation, and acoustic/magnetic biophysics. He is a recipient of the National Outstanding Young Scientist Award of China, National Technological Invention Award , and First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. He is the principal investigator of the China 973 plan, a special fund of Scientific Instruments of NSFC. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006. Then he served as project scientist in the Biomedical Engineering Department, the University of California Davis, and as an associate researcher, researcher, and deputy dean at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently, he is also Director of the National Innovation Center for Advanced Medical Devices, and Director of Key Laboratory of Medical Imaging Science and Technology System, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
