The launch event of "Dialogue between University Party Secretary/President and Overseas Media" held at NJU

On October 20, the "Dialogue between University Party Secretary/President and Overseas Media" was officially launched at the Xianlin Campus of Nanjing University. Co-hosted by the All-China Journalists Association and Nanjing University, the event aimed to foster international, diversified thinking and civilizational exchange through in-depth, face-to-face dialogue. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the event and communicated with over 60 journalists and student representatives from 26 countries.

Tan Tieniu introduced the guests to the history and development of NJU, its academic construction, talent cultivation, campus development, and approach to international education. He emphasized that NJU is a Chinese university that has consistently aligned its development with the nation's destiny, staying attuned to the pulse of the times, leading in scientific achievements, and preserving cultural heritage. In recent years, the university has prioritized international collaboration, significantly enhancing the level of global engagement and achieving various major results. Tan shared stories of NJU's deepening cooperation with partners in "Belt and Road" countries in areas such as talent development, research cooperation, cultural heritage preservation, and participation in global governance. He stressed that the university will continue to expand its openness to collaboration with universities and research institutions worldwide, support international student education, and conduct joint research on global topics such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development. He expressed hope for continuing friendships and writing new chapters in international collaboration.

During the dialogue, participants from Cambodia, Namibia, Argentina, Cape Verde, Indonesia, and other countries enthusiastically raised questions on diverse topics, including cultural heritage and international communication, opportunities and challenges brought by the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the openness of education to international cooperation, research innovation and collaboration on global issues, as well as exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign youths.

Tan Tieniu addressed the questions from the guests one by one. He noted that China and the "Global South" countries currently face many shared challenges, expressing hope for continued enhancement of exchanges and cooperation with partners worldwide to explore new paths for shared development. NJU is willing to offer active support and contribute greater efforts to joint research projects, the development of philosophy and social sciences, the promotion of personnel exchanges across nations, and the enhancement of artificial intelligence capacities. He encouraged the attendees to use this event as an opportunity to bring their impressions of the real NJU back to their respective countries, enabling more international friends to recognize and understand the university and build a bridge of cultural exchange.

Wu Xu, member of the Party Leadership Group and Secretary of the Secretariat of the All-China Journalists Association; Hu Liansheng, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee; Huang Jianwei, member of the editorial board and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Xinhua Daily, Chen Yunsong, Vice Chair of NJU CPC Council; and Joseph Mbeng Boum, Vice President of the World Federation of Science Journalists, jointly witnessed the launch ceremony and participated in the inaugural event.

On the same day, a graduation ceremony for the Global South Journalists Workshop was held, along with a youth gala. Students from NJU and journalist representatives performed a variety of vibrant programs.

If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together. This event not only opened a window for overseas media to gain deeper insight into Chinese universities but also built a bridge for fostering understanding, mutual learning, and exchanges among friends from different countries. It further deepened the sincere friendships that transcend mountains and seas and contributed to promoting civilizational exchange and mutual learning.
