On May 23, the general meeting for re-election and inaugural meeting of the Seventh Board of Trustees of Nanjing University were held at NJU's Suzhou Campus. The event was attended by Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the CAS; as well as Huang Aijun, Deputy Secretary of the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Suzhou Municipal People's Congress.
Yu Fanying, Chairperson of the Yu Jizhong Education Foundation and Executive Director of the Huaying Culture and Education Foundation; Qian Dongqi, Founder of the Ecovacs and Tineco brands and Chairman of the Ecovacs Group; Zhang Xiang, Academician of the National Academy of Engineering (USA) and Foreign Academician of the CAS, and President of the University of Hong Kong; Shen Xiaoping, Chairman of the Board of Tongding Group; and Zheng Gang, Chairman of the Jiangsu Pangto Philanthropic Service Center, were appointed honorary chairpersons of NJU's Seventh Board of Trustees. Representatives from the cultural, academic, and business sectors, totaling 110 attendees, were appointed as trustees. Board members and guests from all walks of life gathered to collaboratively discuss strategies for NJU's high-quality development and the vision for building a world-class university.
Tan Tieniu welcomed the trustees and guests attending the event. He expressed profound respect and sincere gratitude to all directors and social leaders who have long supported the university's development. He stated that the board of trustees has become an essential component of NJU's governance system, serving as a critical bridge for the university to connect with society, integrate resources, and pool strength. It is the most reliable and reliant strategic force for promoting our university's high-quality development.
Currently, NJU is at a critical stage of overcoming challenges, advancing efforts, and accelerating the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics as the "Unique NJU". Tan Tieniu emphasized the expectation for the Board to fulfill several key roles. NJU is committed to establishing wider, deeper, and more comprehensive partnerships with various sectors. With an extensive perspective, open posture, and indefatigable progress, the university aims to write a new chapter in the development of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, contributing significantly to the modernization and revitalization of the nation.
Tan Zhemin delivered a work report titled "United in Common Efforts, Focused on New Beginnings." He observed that the previous Board had focused on the university's core responsibilities, providing robust support and injecting dynamic momentum for the university's development. He summarized NJU's achievements during its "14th Five-Year Plan"and emphasized that the next five years represent a critical stage for building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. The university will stay focused, work harder, and continuously write new chapters of high-quality development. Tan Zhemin expressed his hope that the new Board would continue to serve as the university's "advisory and resource departments", inject vitality for leapfrog development, expand the university's network of collaborators, and enhance NJU's reputation.
Huang Aijun pointed out in his speech that NJU is a stronghold of basic research and a source of scientific self-reliance. The university provides significant intellectual support for Jiangsu province in its efforts to lead modernization and demonstrate exemplary practices, making valuable contributions to national development and rejuvenation. He commended the Board for gathering resources from various sectors to aid the university's development, facilitating school-local collaborations, and particularly supporting the development of the Suzhou Campus, which marks a milestone in NJU's development and Suzhou's high-quality growth. He emphasize that Suzhou will continue to provide robust support and strive toward building a world-class university campus, cultivating world-class industrial clusters, and becoming a global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The meeting was chaired by Suo Wenbin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee and Vice President of NJU. He introduced the composition of the seventh Board of Trustees. Tan Tieniu issued the appointment certificate for the Chairman of the Board to Tan Zhemin. Tan Zhemin, in turn, presented appointment certificates to honorary chairpersons, honorary trustees, and trustees of the Board.
Suo Wenbin chaired the event.
The meeting reviewed and approved the Nanjing University Board of Trustees Constitution (Revised Version).
During the discussion session, representatives of the Board actively contributed ideas and suggestions for the high-quality development of Nanjing University via online and offline interactions, creating a lively atmosphere. Participants pledged continued support for Nanjing University's plans, bolstering foundational progress for the realization of the "Unique Nanjing University".
After the meeting, attendees visited the Suzhou Campus, where academicians planted saplings in the Garden of Academicians, creating cherished memories.
