NJU international students experience traditional printmaking art

On the afternoon of May 25, the "Grain Buds Imprinted, Printmaking Bridges China and the World" Chinese and international youth printmaking event was successfully held at the Nanjing International Cultural Exchange Center. Co-organized by the Graduate Student Union of Nanjing University and Nanjing Association for Cultural Communication, the event attracted 15 international students from seven countries as well as several Chinese students.

The event opened with a cultural sharing session on the Xiaoman (Grain Buds) solar term. The host introduced the customs of Xiaoman and the Eastern aesthetic concept of "being full yet not overflowing." Using classical poetry and printmaking works, the session explained the Chinese philosophy of living in harmony with nature. Then all students took turns introducing themselves.

During the printmaking experience session, a professional instructor demonstrated the steps of carving, inking, and printing, and emphasized safety precautions. Participants then created their own works around the theme of Xiaoman. Some students chose traditional solar term imagery, while others colored and printed based on pre-prepared line drafts.

At the end, all students presented their printmaking works to each other and explained their inspirations. International students also shared their own cultural understandings of nature and seasons from their home countries. All participants took photos with their works as souvenirs.

Through hands-on experience, the event provided international students at Nanjing University with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of printmaking and to enhance their appreciation of traditional Chinese culture.
