Congratulations to Professor Dai Congrong on winning the 9th Lu Xun Literature Prize.

On July 15, 2026, the winners of the 9th Lu Xun Literature Prize (2022–2025) were officially announced. As one of China’s most prestigious national literary honors, the Prize is conferred once every four years.

Professor Dai Congrong from the Institute for Global Humanities, Nanjing University won the Literary Translation Prize for her translation work Finnegans Wake (Three Volumes). The book was co-published by Yilin Press and East China Normal University Press.


Finnegans Wake is the magnum opus of Irish writer James Joyce, which took him 17 years to complete. It is widely regarded as the most impenetrable literary work of the 20th century. Professor Dai Congrong has dedicated years to Joyce studies. She spent 18 years finishing the first complete annotated Chinese translation of this masterpiece with over 40,000 annotated entries of comparable length to the original text.
