The Department of Computer Science and Technology traces its history back to 1958, when the university’s Department of Mathematics set up three computer-related majors, computational technology, computational mathematics and mathematical logic.
The Department of Computer Science was established in 1978 and later on in 1993 was renamed to the Department of Computer Science and Technology. In 1981, it was authorized to confer doctoral degrees, one of the earliest in China, and in 1990, it completed the State Key Laboratory for Novel Software Technology.
At present, the department has a highly-competitive faculty of over 100 members, including the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, chair professors of Cheung Kong Scholars Program, and winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund and the Thousand Youth Talents Plan.
The department integrates the first-level National Key Discipline (Computer Science and Technology), the State Key Laboratory, and the Creative Research Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It will continue making significant contributions to the development of computer science and technology in China.
