1000 Talents Program (The Recruitment Program for Innovative Talents)


“The Recruitment Program for Innovative Talents,” a global program for recruiting high-level overseas scholars and talents, was established by the Chinese government in December 2008. Popularly known as “The 1000 Talents Program (1000-Plan),” it targets (with financial support from both the central government and local research institutes) strategically important scientists and leading talents who will work in China and play a leading role in the development of high-tech industries or new academic fields in the nation’s major innovation projects. Long-term positions


Qualifications and conditions


  • The applicant should have been engaged in one or more of the following research fields:

    Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Environmental and Earth Sciences, Information Sciences, Engineering and Material Sciences, Life Sciences, Economy and Management Sciences, Law Studies, International Relations, Diplomacy, Psychology.

  • The applicant should be under 55 years of age (60 for applicants in the fields of social sciences as described above;

  • The applicant should hold a doctoral degree from an accredited university overseas;

  • The applicant should hold full professorship or an equivalent title in a prestigious foreign university or research institute;

  • After recruitment, the appointee is expected to work at Nanjing University for at least 9 months annually.


Remuneration


Nanjing University will provide comprehensive support for the appointeesincluding start-up research funds, salaries, accommodation benefits, offices, laboratories, research assistants and graduate students.

  • The applicant should hold full professorship or an equivalent title in a prestigious foreign university or research institute;

  • After recruitment, the appointee is expected to work at Nanjing University for at least 2 months each year, for three consecutive years.


Remuneration


Nanjing University will provide comprehensive support for the appointees including start-up research funds, decent salaries, accommodation benefits, and support in research facilities.



Programs for High-Level Foreign Experts


The recruitment for high-level foreign experts is a crucial part of the overall “1000-Plan.” Aimed at promoting the globalization of overall science and technology research in China, the program plans to recruit 500 to 1,000 non-Chinese national experts within 10 years.


Qualifications and remuneration


  • The international talents applying for these programs should be non-Chinese nationals under 65 years of age.

  • Long-term position applicants are expected to work at Nanjing University for at least 9 months each year, for three consecutive years; short-term position applicants are expected to work at Nanjing University for at least 2 months each year for three consecutive years.

  • The applicants should also meet other general standards of the “1000-Plan.”


Other than the support described above, the university will also facilitate the application of the long-term Chinese Visa and/or permanent residence permit of Jiangsu Province (for outstanding international appointees).
