CHEN Jun

President Chen Jun was born in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province in 1954. He graduated from the Department of Geology, Nanjing University in 1979. In 1985, he got his Ph.D. degree in Geology from the Department of Earth Sciences of this University and became professor of geochemistry in the same Department in 1992. Before his election as President of Nanjing University in 2006, Professor Chen had been the Dean of the Department of Earth Sciences, Vice-President and Executive Vice-President of Nanjing University, a member of the Fourth Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, and the Standing Director of the Chinese Geological Society. Now he is a member of the Fifth Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council and a member of the Fifth Committee of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Education. He also serves as the Standing Director of the Chinese Society for Quaternary Research and the Vice President of the Chinese Society for Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry.

Professor Chen Jun was engaged in the investigation and research of tungsten, tin and gold mines of Southern China in the 1980`s. Since the mid-1990`s, he has been involved in the research of global environmental changes. He also chairs research projects under the National Outstanding Youth Fund and the key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation. Due to his work, a research base for Surficial Geochemistry in China has been established. Professor Chen has been awarded several prizes for Science and Technology Accomplishment by the Ministry of Education of China.
